This post is directed to Sarah ( themngopngn ) of Rev.iew.me in reference to her review of this site. I will be quoting chunks of the review throughout the post; however, you can read the full review HERE.
Before I begin, I would just like to mention that I take criticism very well and welcome it with open arms. But there is a difference between providing constructive criticism and spewing off irrelevant points due to the reviewer’s own incompetence (most likely coupled with laziness), to review a site properly. Thus why I was so put off by this so called ~review~.
So let’s begin!
First Impression-
This is definitely a different website. I have never seen anything like it before. The name is unique, even though a lot of people use “faux” nowadays. The blog is so big, though. There is not a welcome message.![]()
Faux has always been a commonly-used word, especially when dealing with fake fur or other products. Thank you for the compliment. As for the welcome message, I don’t see why you make such a big deal of it. Looking at YOUR SITE you don’t have a welcome message either, which makes you a hypocrite. I may consider adding a quick reference note above my blog in the future, but at this point it is not necessary. A visitor can easily figure out what the site is about simply by looking at the links at the top of the page. “Portfolio”, “Textures”, “Tutorials”…. it’s not that hard to figure out.
Organization-
Content should be changed to “Visitor” since ‘content’ means everything that is on your site. Besides that, why make a page for the visitor material when you already have everything in your top navigation?
Nit-picky are we? Content can be anything which has substance and isn’t subjective to everything on the site. Also, the little footnote at the bottom of the page explains why there is so little content. I plan on adding a variety of other content for visitors to look at such as my written works, activities, etc.
Content-
The home page is okay. Like I said above, there is no welcome message. You may want to add one? Perhaps in the header? I could not really tell what your ‘theme’ is if you have one. A reviewer should be able to know what your theme is within the first 20 seconds of viewing everything on your website.
I don’t understand what you mean by “theme”. If you’re talking about the purpose of the site then one can easily determine that by the links, as I mentioned above. Since you’re coming from Rev.iew.me you should have known what my site is about ahead of time because of the description provided on the review page. “FAUXISM.org is a graphics domain. It features my blog, graphics portfolio, resources and tutorials. Graphics resources include brushes, textures, stock, and icon textures.” But I guess you failed to read that prior to writing your review.
They should also be able to see your personality and hear your voice. From the bug/oatmeal blog I am guessing that you are a boy since you left oatmeal sitting out for a day at your desk? That was a bit disgusting.
A visitor can get a sense of my personality and voice through my blogs. I don’t understand how this part of your review is in any way relevant to my site. I am female and it is extremely rude of you to assume I am male by judging me through one photograph.
Why do the textures and tutorials links link to the content page? You should try using PHP includes to avoid this problem. It makes editing everything much easier.
The “Textures” and “Tutorials” links in the header link to nothing. If you click on them they simply refresh the page that you are on. If you actually paid any attention to the links you would have noticed more links drop down instantaneously after hovering over either of the main links.
The drop down menu works perfectly in Safari, so it baffles my mind how you did not notice that. The reason I have the main links not link to anything is because I do not have separate pages differentiating the different types of textures or tutorials. Therefor I would have to link them to the content page, which in my opinion is a bit redundant. The header drop links serve a quicker way for visitors to find what they are looking for instead of going to the content page first.
If you are going to provide things for other people to use, make them free or have them login first. The brushes page is more of a teaser than a pleaser. The textures link links to this brushes page. Like I said, PHP includes… Tutorials leads to the same page as well, and I am not going to spend my time to go back to that “content” page.
The resources I offer ARE free. Visitors must login into the forum in order to download the resources because they are hosted there. The resource pages are simply previews of the resources I offer on the forum. If you had read the “how to download exclusive resources” you would have known that. I have already discussed the header links issue that you bring up yet again. Organization my dear. Keep the same thought within a single paragraph instead of bringing it up in 10 different places.
I feel that that the “Domain” page could have been organized better. Perhaps like you did your “content” page? Also, make a form for people to apply to be hosted. Do not make them comment. I would not want my application to be there for all to see. Do not be lazy, just create one. Even a 123contactform.com or freedback.com form will satisfy.
There is definitely not enough content on the Domain page to be split into separate pages. And I do not think that having 2 sentences on each page would be very visually appealing. Each section of the Domain page is clearly distinguished. My buttons, the people I host, my affiliates, and a tiny blurb about me. How is that disorganized?
For hosting, I do not offer any application for visitors to fill out. What’s wrong with commenting? “Hi I’m interested in being hosted with you. Please email me back.” It’s private and it’s quick. How does that make me lazy? Because I definitely don’t want two forms on the same page. Wayyy too redundant. The comment form serves the purpose of getting in touch with me and if someone wishes to be hosted by me then they will have no problem doing so.
For the Lights MB site, I am supposing that it is yours since you said that people must be a member of the dang forum in order to be able to download them. What is the point in downloading them? I would much rather search for them some place else rather than join a forum to get a brush pack.
What is the point of downloading the resources?…. Are you serious? The purpose of any resource is for graphic artists to use in their works. What an ignorant question.
Most of my resources are unique, high quality, and high resolution that you cannot find any where else on the net. Sure you can find something similar for a couple of the sets. But there are no high-quality resources anywhere else such as those exclusives that I offer on the forum. And it’s not just ONE set that I offer, there are hundreds of sets.
If you don’t wish to join the forum, then that’s your prerogative. As I mentioned in a previous post here, I am not obligated to share my resources in any specific way. By not complying with the guidelines you would be missing out on amazing resources that you will not be able to find anywhere else on the net.
Though I did not validate your website, you may validate the XHTML here: validator.w3.org/ and the CSS here: jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator .
I have no plans of validating my site since it functions properly across sever browser platforms, with a few glitches in IE which I am working on rectifying.
It was rather difficult to review your website since not all of the pages were linked properly.
All the pages are linked properly. It’s your inability to navigate the site properly that is the problem and in no way is a fault of my own or the site. If your browser for some reason disables javascript then that is your fault that you disable vital components for websites across the net to function properly.
That is all I have to say about your review. Thank you for taking the time to review my site. I really do appreciate the effort you put into the review regardless of its poor quality. And I would just like to apologize in advance if any of my remarks come off as rude. I do not mean for them to seem like that as I tried my best to state everything matter-of-factly.

I swear she’s jealous of your site. You have downloads, mind-blowing images, etc yet she has what? The typical blogging layout. She picked out all the little faults – if not faults, stuff you chose to do differently- and made them seem BIG. Seriously, she should stuff a ‘How to Review properly and not like some turd’ book in it.
okay so I sounded more angry than you did, but I hate people like that.
her blogs are longer then yours :/ What a hypocrite. Her content sucks and is easy to make. who does she think she is?
I used to review websites myself and I was considering signing up for Review Me.
This review is an epic fail. I read it for a laugh, and yes – it did crack me up. ;D
Some people should learn to stick to reviewing the actual WEBSITE. She didn’t say a think about any of your content or your layout or anything.
That’s just stupid.
HAHAHAHAHA!
I know an envious person when i ‘read’ it.
LOLOLOL! Omgosh you are too funny! I love all your replies ^___^
So you’re telling me that someone with a website that has the most godawful color scheme and STILL has “WWW” as one of their links, actually has the nerve to give this review? First off, the review is shit to begin with. Most sites don’t have welcome messages. Your navigation is fine…simple and right at the top which is always nice.
Site theme? Wtf are you talking about even? I seriously don’t know what she meant by that at all.
Not too mention…”Though I did not validate your website, you may validate the XHTML here:”. Uhm. Why don’t you do it, as a reviewer? Most reviewers check a sites validation.
And as a sidenote…I wouldn’t take the review too seriously considering this chick is eighteen and JUST found out that alcohol and tylenol don’t mix.
I know right. And not ‘unique’
OH. MY. GOSH.
Her site layout is so nooby it makes me want to puke. Such a typical and not unique layout. I hate seeing those type of layouts with pale backgrounds and emo listings of affiliates names.
And content sponsors? HA! Oh…I cant control my laughter.
I cant say much about crappy sites, especially when they give reviews to high quality sites.
To start, I gotta say: Bravo! Lana, you had be rolling and slapping my knee the entire time! I love you!
Another thing, is I think your site is so much more appealing then said reviewer’s site. In my opinion it seems as if just by first glance, she didn’t put NEARLY as much time and effort into her site than you did yours, Lana. If I didn’t know you, I would still be able to clearly tell that you spent more time on your site making it as beautiful as it is.
Just makes me think twice by getting somebody to review my site. Honestly, if I like it and I’m happy with it, then it’s all good. I don’t care what anybody else thinks. Like, I used to think reviews were cool. But sometimes I just think people take advantage of the position to review somebody else’s site and they let their ego get to their head and they think they are all mighty and perfect. To me it’s the verse, “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?” [Matt. 7:2]
comment*
does it really matter if sarah is a chick or a dude LMFAO his/her review was pretty much crap and as they tried defending themselves to lana’s blog [which failed] and annerz told them they suck, IT DOESNT MATTER THEIR GENDER
lmfao
i think the comments of this blog are hilarious.
sarah. your website looks lameee. i went then saw it then left. can you say BORRRRING?
~my professor is next to me. his name is mr teddy bear. he agrees with this whole coment~
In regrads to: quote ” hahaha saltttttttttttt.
iconrants person can STFU i think she/he (probably a he by the name of his website … -____-)
obviously he’s just jealous…look how boring his website is compared to yours! lmao lana has a lot more skills than this other person. but thanks for a good laugh, whoever the person is who reviewed this site. it was completly false, shows how rude you are, and shows that you can’t even navigate a drop-down menu or read. yay!” unquote
I just have to say, how can you say someone is a boy by their screenname? obviously if you were to look at HER website, you would see that the website is SARAH.partyofme.com. I have never in my life met a boy named sarah.
Anna was being sarcastic in that part of her comment. She was mocking Sarah’s assumption that I’m male from a photograph because it is just as absurd as assuming Sarah is male from her website’s name.
+ oops im sorry i forgot something.
1. the site you rated a 5 is wtf worthy
2. heartdrops.org has quality brushes? only if you’re stuck in 1999 and wanna make everything look retarded. obviously, you don’t know everything
and i would mention the fact that thats a totally fake email but i think that is obvious enough
After reading this review, I believe it was written out of pure spite and jealously.
Btw Anna, what do you mean by ‘2. heartdrops.org has quality brushes? only if you’re stuck in 1999 and wanna make everything look retarded. obviously, you don’t know everything’?
wtf @ sarah. so if this site is 1 star, does that mean your site is a negative 10? your site compared to lana’s is pitiful/super plain and dull. i think that accounts for your poor review. but once again, thanks for the comedy! i needed a good laugh today, and man you sure gave me one!
Haha wow I love your response!
That person reviewed my site as well, and I was slightly annoyed by them emphasizing my ‘lack of personality on my website’. -_______- It’s a shame that she wrote all these things when her site does not match up to yours.
The review was not fully written by me, however, it was written by someone of higher standards than I. “Content” is the entire website put together, as you can see at http://bloodtodeath.com/reviews/rubric/ . Also, I did not point out just the negative, but I will admit that I am a website critique. I have critiqued and reviewed a total of 174 websites. I rarely give 4 or 5 stars, so if I give you two or three, consider yourself outstanding. Even one and a half is awesome. About the resources, I do not join anymore forums. I have joined two, but it is really considered just one since PartyOfMe.com is a hosting website and needed one at the time. Within a month, it will be deleted and all clients will have a user name and password for the client area, and can join the forum without having to visit a third-party website. It will be more convenient to the entire Party of Me family. Now, for you, you put your website out there for it to be reviewed, and I reviewed it. Each reviewer and critique has their own style and rubric and opinions. If you cannot stand one’s opinion, then how do you know whether you can stand another’s? My professor viewed both your website and my review, and he said that he somewhat agrees. Would you like for him to review it as well? Perhaps you would much rather have him do so. Eh, whichever. If so you can e-mail him via cantrell.dean@gmail.com.
That is all that I have to say. Oh–and if I would like high-quality resources, I would just go to heartdrops.org.
Don’t know if you have seen this but… http://www.jemjabella.co.uk/blog/review-of-sarahpartyofmecom
This whole affair has hypocrisy written all over it to be honest. Take a look at your own site first maybe?
And the moral of this story.. don’t pretend you know what your talking about when you don’t. It will come back to bite you.. this time, it’s done so twice.
LOL! I had a feeling Jem was going to bring her up on her blog. I’m surprised she didn’t give her a Pants award.
Okay, look. The definition of content is the entire website put together. What makes this website you dumb f*ck?
Most of her content is graphics and resources. Majority = content.
But, ignoring that. Why does it even matter? The most crappiest sites witht he crappiest ‘content’ are the one’s who list their work under ‘visitor’ – that’s not even understandable.
When someone asks you what content do you have on your site? Do they say, what visitor do you have on your site?
Nooooo. Didn’t think so.
Just because I stated that content was everything in a website doesn’t mean I’m right. LOL I’m new at reviewing websites. However, I do believe that there are different types of content in a website. I usually separate them into two categories: visitor (such as downloads and whatnot) and non-visitor (such as a page about my affiliates). I could be wrong. I’ll figure this out in the future.
I think the site is perfect the way it is.
I actually like the style of the links at the top of the page. Very quick and efficient!
That review was quite shrill and negative.
LOL shrill! Thanks Nathan ♥
hahaha saltttttttttttt.
i think she/he (probably a he by the name of his website … -____-)
iconrants person can STFU
obviously he’s just jealous…look how boring his website is compared to yours! lmao lana has a lot more skills than this other person. but thanks for a good laugh, whoever the person is who reviewed this site. it was completly false, shows how rude you are, and shows that you can’t even navigate a drop-down menu or read. yay!
Someone just got OWN’D.
LOL I know right XD
